Art Handling & Care

Preserving the beauty of your handcrafted art for generations.

General Care Principles

Your piece is a handcrafted work of art. With proper care, its colors and integrity will last for generations.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to harsh UV rays can cause the vibrant Geru (red clay) and Biswar (rice paste) colors to fade over time.
  • Keep Away from Moisture: Aipan art is traditionally made with natural, water-soluble elements. Do not place the art in highly humid areas like bathrooms or directly exposed outdoor walls.
  • Temperature Control: Avoid extreme heat or sudden temperature changes. Do not place near radiators, fireplaces, or air conditioning vents.

Cleaning Instructions

  • Dusting: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a fine feather duster to gently wipe the surface.
  • No Liquids: Never use wet cloths, chemical cleaners, or sprays on the unvarnished art surfaces.
  • Framed Pieces: For framed art with glass fronts, spray glass cleaner onto the cloth (not directly on the glass) to avoid seepage into the frame.

Handling Fragile Items

When moving 3D objects like decorated Chowkis or Thalis, always support them from the base. Avoid holding them by the edges or decorative attachments, as these areas are delicate. Always wash your hands before handling to prevent oil transfer to the porous surfaces.
